Laser Therapy in Ashfield
Accelerating tissue healing with advanced light therapy
Complimentary Pre-Assessment — find out how we can help.
Book Free AssessmentLow-level laser therapy (LLLT), also known as cold laser therapy or photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular repair and reduce inflammation. It is a non-invasive treatment that most people find comfortable, and it complements our other manual therapy services.
Laser therapy works by delivering focused light energy to damaged tissues, promoting increased blood flow, reducing swelling, and accelerating the body's natural healing processes. Sessions are quick, typically lasting 5-15 minutes, with no downtime.
At Pro Health Clinic, our practitioners integrate laser therapy into comprehensive treatment plans alongside chiropractic, physiotherapy, and massage for optimal results.
How Does Laser Therapy Work?
The laser emits photons of light that penetrate the skin and are absorbed by cells. This light energy triggers a series of biological responses including increased ATP production, enhanced cellular metabolism, and accelerated tissue repair.
Most patients feel a gentle warmth or nothing at all during the session.
What a Session Involves
Laser is applied after an assessment, not instead of one. Your practitioner identifies the tissue involved and decides whether light therapy is a sensible addition to your plan — it is used as one component of treatment rather than a standalone service.
During treatment the handpiece is held against or just above the skin over the target area. You and your practitioner both wear protective eyewear for the duration. Sessions typically run five to fifteen minutes depending on how many areas are being treated, and there is no recovery period afterwards.
- Assessment first, so the laser is aimed at a specific diagnosis
- Protective eyewear worn by everyone in the room
- Five to fifteen minutes depending on the area
- No gel, needles or skin preparation required
- Return to normal activity immediately afterwards
What to Expect Afterwards
There is usually nothing to manage after a session — most people notice no after-effects at all, and any mild warmth in the area settles quickly. Because laser therapy is cumulative rather than immediate, changes are typically noticed across a course of sessions rather than after the first one.
Your practitioner will reassess as the course progresses. If your symptoms are not shifting, we would rather change the plan than keep repeating a treatment that is not earning its place.
When Laser Therapy Is Not Suitable
Low-level laser has a good safety profile, but there are areas and circumstances where it is avoided. Let your practitioner know about your medical history and any medication you take — some medications increase sensitivity to light.
- Directly over the eyes — protective eyewear is worn at all times
- Over a known or suspected tumour
- Over the abdomen during pregnancy
- Over the thyroid gland
- Where you are taking photosensitising medication
- Over areas of active bleeding or an unhealed open wound
How It Fits With the Rest of Your Treatment
Laser therapy works best as an adjunct. It is generally used to settle an irritable area enough that hands-on treatment and loading exercise become tolerable, which is where the durable change tends to come from.
In practice that means your plan is likely to combine laser with manual therapy, a graded exercise program, and advice about the activities that aggravate the problem. All of it is delivered by the same team in the one Ashfield clinic, so the components are sequenced deliberately rather than duplicated.
